I served aboard "The Mighty 'O' with HC1-DET6 as a rescue swimmer during the '70 deployment to "YANKEE STATION". Nothing but fond memories, except for being medivac'd out early for a medical condition. BUPERS wouldn't let me go back finish the job...

My father Fred M. Jaehnig was on the USS Oriskany around 1966 to 1967. Sadly he passed away in 1996. I wish I had taken more interest before he passed away. I have some pictures of him and some crew. Some of the pictures do not have the names writen on the back, so I do not know who they are. Just thought I would take this chance to see if anyone knew him. My father George Steer was on the USS Oriskany in 1965. Sadly he passed away on September 5, 2011 from lung cancer. He loved that ship so much, he talked a lot about it and has many fond memories. I wish I had taken more interest before he passed away. I wish I could find some pictures of him and some crew, guess even when he was younger he didn't like his photo being taken. My dad Gary W Brown served on the Oriskany and I dont know which year. After his death his 2nd wife decided she wouldnt share his navy stuff. I want to purchase a book but dont know if it was 63-64 or 65. Can anyone help...??? it would mean alot. She has the book but wont give it to his children. Thanks in advance I just need the year?

Hi to any and all shipmates that served on that old rust bucket, I was HTFN, ships company, nuculus fire party from 1974 threw 1977. Decommissoned her in Alamada before she was towed to Bermington, Washington.I'm on facebook, looking for Scotty Stacks. Randy Rubeck, James Kellerman, or any one that sailed on the Pineapple cruise with me.

My dad served on the Oriskany sometime between 1950-1953. His name was Joseph Montague Radioman 1st Class. I am very proud of my dad as he served in WWII and Korea. I can imagine not many men are living now that may have served along side my dad...he passed away in 2003. I watched on TV as they prepared the ship to sink her and could imagine dad walking those passages! I miss him every day! Thank you everyone who has served in our armed forces....we are ever grateful.

I was aboard with VF 162 Fighter Squadron and have a claim with the VA for Agent orange Exposure. See my comments on the Forum section. I am trying to locate the two shipmates who left the ship with me, Gary Liptack and Deno Wyatt, we were CODded off together on July 13th 1965 and landed in Ton Sanh Nhut air base in Viet Nam awaiting trans back to the states for separation.

My father PAUL C. LEHM also served on the Oriskany sometime between 1950-1954. He was on board on March 6, 1953, when a navy corsair landed on board with an bomb that had failed to release; the bomb then dislodged, killing two crewmen. My dad passed away when I was young, so I don't have many details about his time in the service. If anyone knew him, I would love to talk! His namesake -- my 9 year old son Paul -- is very interested in the military and loves the fact that his granddaddy served on a real aircraft carrier. (Natalie Lehm Olsen)

Served onboard 75-76. Checked onboard the day ship returned from Sea trials in long Beach. Made the last WestPac and part of the decommissioning crew. Was an ETN3 and worked out of Transmitter Room 3. Turned 20 during the last cruise and celebrated my 55th birthday diving the Oriskany and exploring some old spaces I used to work in.

My dad, Kenneth "Richard" Erickson served on the Oriskany from 65-69. I believe he was a gunners mate. He passed away in January. I would like to hear from anyone that knew him or that might have a picture of him in uniform. I have been unable to find any pics, and want to give one to the local Veterens Affairs Office for their memorial. The site is great. I wish dad could have seen it before he passed away.

Though I served in the Air Force from 1962-1966(Guam 64-66), I am seeking information about my cousin, James L. Stevens MM1, who served aboard the Big O sometime during the Vietnam era. Jim was a career retired Navyman who settled in Roswell, NM. In May of 2000 Jim died in a house fire and is buried in the national cemetery in Santa Fe. I would ask that his memory live on in prayer when there is a reunion or whenever shipmates gather. Thanks, Steve

I served in VF 162 and made the 1965 and 1966 WestPac cruises. Fortunately for me, I got off three weeks before the fire. Saw quite a few names I recognize including Rick Mussellman who may still owe me money

Served aboard from early 73 until Sept 74 just before the move to Long Beach. Worked in the ships main galley. Remember the trip to Mombasa, and the time Christmas there. Sure was rough to get ashore, and back again. Crossed the line for the second time that trip.

I served on the "O" twice from 1961 to 1963. Was in VMf-334 qualifying pilots. We were off the coast of California, doing two week Quals. One was during the Cuban Missle Crises. When we went topside the day it started we had around 20 ships sailing with us. Loved the "O", and wished she would have been made a Museum.

served with the united states marines proudly, and it was an honor to have served! deployed from alameda naval air station spring 1969. Nixon came aboard outside the golden gate, and was given a display of the O's firepower! what a sight! reached dixie and yankee station, and was immeadiately met with soviet trawlers! what an experience! i still feel today, that nixon should have leveled hanoi with the ordnance that we were protecting! oh well! maybe someday, there will be a leader that has some balls to stand up to terrorists, and whoever attacks our country! semper fi! and God bless these United States of America!

I served aboard the Oriskany from 1969 to 1971 in the Operations/Air Intelligence Office. I used to hang around with my buddies from El Paso, Rudy Zavala, Richard Rubio, Blas Gonzales, and Luis Ortega. Rudy and Richard were in the Communications Department and their buddies used to join us on the beach.

I served on the Oriskany from March 1968 - December 1971. I was a ship's serviceman and worked in the ship's stores, sales office and laundry.

I was onboard fron 1964 to 1969.

I found this web site when looking for some memorabilia on the Mighty "O". We are opening the "Oriskany Diner" in Oriskany NY and are decorating it with a historical theme on Oriskany. We have been to the museum and received info that some of the ship mates will be visiting the area later this year. We are very excited and hope that you will come in for a visit and meal. My name is Terry Smith. I came aboard as an AC2 and left as an AC1. I served on the Oriskany in 1975-76 in the OC Division telling our great pilots "were to go" from the ship’s CATCC (Carrier Air Traffic Control Center). I was also one of the cartoonists for the "Snoopy" cartoons on the back of the dail;y air plan. Needless to say, serving aboard the “O Boat” was one of my finest life adventures. Like many, when I watched her sink below the waves off Pensacola I cried. Some say she is gone – I just prefer to think of her on her last permanent duty station serving her country in a unique way. I am looking for any of the OC Division members that served on her last Westpac cruse (75-76). Especially looking for (rank at the time) AC1 Jim Smith, ACC Eddie Caldwell, and ACMC Fred Jackson. I am also looking for one unnamed F8 pilot who almost went into the South China Sea low fuel and unable to tank or bingo to Subic. I got you down on your last pass at the deck.

I boarded the mighty oriskany in Irwucuna Japan.Bigger than any John Deere tractor this country boy ever saw,but it sure did ride better than a tractor.The lady was my home from oct. 1963 untill june of 1967.v1 was my farm and i had a lot of birds to take care of,chief croft was my mommy,daddy,brother, sister,he along with all his other helpers showed me the ropes. I would to thank you all,and i do. Igot a lot of good lessons,then returned to Al.Retired as Alabama State Trooper after 25 years.Have been in law enforcement nearly 40 years.Curently employed with Troy University as a police officer.The U.S.S ORISKANY was part of my life and i will never forget her,and all the great friends .GOD SPEED EVERYONE
