Crash Barge505 viewsI'm pretty sure that the pic was taken in Atsugi, Japan during the September 1953 to April 1954 deployment. It was customary to offload crash-damaged aircraft that could not be repaired on board and take on replacements at least once during a deployment. The picture shows three swept-wing F9F-6s that were on their first outing, a straight-wing F9F-5, an F2H-3 (the bigger Banshee that was just being deployed that year for the first time), and a photo reconnaissance F2H-2P.
